The Ancient History

Seeing as i've been pre-occupied of late, this hasnt seen the progress I would like. I'm nearly finished with the lengthy sixth chapter, which - without giving too much away - would probably be best described as "crunch time" in terms of battle. It is also the end of the first Act under the original mini-story, the remnants of which will be observed in how chapter 7 and 8 unfolds.

But enough of that, since this is taking me a while, and I already have a number of 'follow on' ideas, the history between Ashiya and the Angels is perhaps foggy and will be unable to be explored for a while, but since I think far faster than I can write, there is already a fairly in depth theory behind their origins.

The race Ashiya belongs to (as yet un-named, so will hence be called "Race-X") evolved in a distant world, a humanoid lizard shapeshifter; like a chameleon blends into its surroundings, Race-X can shift its shape from a human to a large serpentine lizard (which is the form to be seen in "The Deceit of Angels"). They are hence adept at climbing, very inquistive in nature, thirsty to learn as much as it can, they voyaged the stars and surrounding solar systems. Now, Race-X is perhaps the most odd of my creature inventions, as they are essentially very fearful as a race. Their evolutionary path saw no need for speech, and instead communicate through philotic connections (aka: telepathy) so they can remain silent and hidden; likewise their technology was less geared towards defence as much as hiding their frail forms. Advanced cloaking technology and the ability to use holographic projections to make small convoys look like a fleet as a last resort, forcing the enemy to withdraw form much of their capabilities.

It is inevitable that they eventually discovered the Angels, a convoy of three small scout ships, and their desire for knowledge of the angels and their technology overpowered their fears. It was through philotic connections that they tried to communicate, and though the Angels heard voices in their head, for fear of what they meant tried to shut them out. Naturally, Race-X started speaking louder, eventually causing the angels to be in constant agony at the screaming voices in their head. Blaming this small unknown craft (the only one visible - the others remained cloaked) for this, they were given little choice but to destroy the small craft, but they were given little respite, for before their eyes uncloaked an entire fleet of ships (although only two were real, the rest mere holoprojections). Considering this an act of war, the superior firepower of the angels soon decimated the remaining fleet, the two remaining ships plummeting to the nearby planet (they'd have figured out what was happening when half their shots went through the other ships :p).

A party was sent to retrieve what remained, but only one ship was discovered. The survivors were taken prisoner and experimented on (this is how their idea of philotic theory emerged). The truth of what happened to the remaining ship was that it sank underwater, and with a repaired cloaking system there they stayed hidden for fear of what might happen if they were to leave. Ashiya was but one of the residents, forbidden from helping the nearby early civilization (then pretty much cavemen) but recklessly left regardless to help man with basic agriculture. It was the angels who observed rapid civilization leaps in this city that caused their return. Fleeing back beneath the waves f0r thousands of years the Angels kept watch over the world, suspicious that there may still be remaining survivors.

Well I hope that was somewhat entertaining to read, if only as a by-story :p
